Negro/Freeman Hill

The Negro/ Freeman Hill area is interesting as it straddles the border between four towns, two counties and two watersheds. During the late 18th and early 19th centuries it was a refuge for a rogue's gallery of political and racial outcasts. The walk will cover some of the figures who lived on and around Negro/ Freeman Hill and how they impacted the history of our community. Tom Rubino, a history teacher from the Global Experience Magnet School in Bloomfield and local historian, will share his research about this area with hike participants.
Hike Description:
Our in and out hike will be 3.4 miles long. We will take the Tunxis Blue Trail from the end of Johnnycake Mtn. Road and head towards the end of the Greer Rd./Blueberry Hill Rd. area. Most of the trail is pretty flat, but there are gentle inclines…
