HIKE BETWEEN TWO NATURAL GEMS:

THE HARRY C. BARNES MEMORIAL NATURE CENTER IN BRISTOL AND SESSIONS WOODS WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA IN BURLINGTON

Hike Descriptions:

The hike is 4.2 miles in from Sessions Woods to the Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center and back.  Hikers can arrange carpools to do a 2.1 mile hike (see directions below).  This hike has two moderately steep hills and descents with marshy areas along the brook.  Kids’ Hike: start at Sessions Woods and follow the guide to the bridge over Freeman Hill Brook/Negro Hill Brook and go back.  Follow the directions 1-8 for the Kids’ Hike.

Carpool arrangements: 

For a 2.1 mile hike, bring two cars to the HC Barnes Nature Center at 175 Shrub Rd, Bristol, CT GPS Coordinates:  41.7141° N, 72.9392° W.  Leave one car here and get into the other car with your quarantine buddies and drive to Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area to start the hike. 

What you need for this hike: 

  • Sturdy hiking shoes you can wear through marshy, muddy areas

  • Bug repellent and long pants

  • Water and snacks

  • Hiking poles and hat or cap (optional)
